The Yellow Dogs fled Iran. Then violence shattered their world.
Having studied Middle Eastern History in college, I was always fascinated by Iranian culture and their extensive history within the wold. I became a fan of Yellow Dogs last year and in part, purely because of their story. Having to play secret shows in Tehran, risking the lives of not only themselves but their friends and family who would come out to shows. I could never understand something like that, growing up in the suburbs where garage bands were the norm. They could play the hell out of their instruments and invoked an attitude I thought was equally refreshing and a nod back to great post-punk bands in the last twenty years. Having just started to break in US, they moved to Brooklyn and were just about to start touring internationally.
My prayers and love go out to their family and friends. Here’s hoping in the future folks with mental illnesses get the help they need to avoid just fucking tragedies like this.
